Following her unexpected debut ‘Love Song Idea’, the newly initiated solo artist Melis has given us another taste of her organic, yet futuristic pop with ‘Flower’. Beginning as delicately as the first track, ‘Flower’ gently blooms from a simple two note melody and Melis’ cutting vocal into much richer production with sparkling synths and stepping electronic drums. This self-released song is the second from the Berlin-via-Brighton based musician’s first EP as an individual artist, something which she speaks about here: “Flower is the track from the EP that really holds a special place for me. I wrote it during 2016 which seemed to be a bit of a rough patch for me. The sentiment of the song is that going through sadness and being in a dark place isn’t forever. There is hope and better things, if only one doesn’t give up. This song is the encouragement for that. I recorded the idea, like Love Song Idea, on my iPhone. I began to record parts of it in my apartment and in a small Berlin studio space with Josh Christopher.” Methodically created with a pure ambition, Melis continues to be a unique creative with an already diversifying catalogue. - HT
